Find out exactly how much time is between two dates — in days, weeks, calendar-aware months, and years.
The gap between two dates can be counted two ways — inclusive (counting both the start and end date) or exclusive (counting only the days between them) — and which one you want depends entirely on what you're using the answer for. Booking accommodation for “5 nights” is a different count than “5 days” between check-in and check-out. Leap years add another wrinkle: February having an extra day in some years means the same two calendar dates can be a day apart in duration depending on the year.
This calculator counts the days that pass from the From date up to the To date, so the To date itself isn’t counted. 1 January to 6 January is 5 days, which is also 5 nights if you’re counting a stay. If you want to count both the first and the last day, add 1 to the result.
How do I find the difference between two dates?
Pick a From date and a To date. The result updates straight away: total days first, then weeks, months, years and a weekday/weekend split. If the To date is earlier, the tool shows the gap as a positive number and tells you.
Does the date difference include the end date?
No. The To date isn’t counted, so 1 Jan to 6 Jan is 5 days. Add 1 to include both dates.
How are months worked out when the start date is the 31st?
The tool adds whole months to the From date, using the last day of the month when the target month is shorter, then counts the leftover days. 31 Jan 2027 to 1 Mar 2027 comes out as 1 month, 1 day.
Does the weekday count skip public holidays?
No. Weekdays are Monday to Friday and weekends are Saturday and Sunday. Holidays aren’t considered, and the To date isn’t counted, the same as the total.
How are leap years handled?
The tool counts the actual calendar days, including 29 February when it falls between your dates.
