Reading dice notation

3d6+2 means “roll three six-sided dice, add them together, then add 2.” 1d20 is a single twenty-sided die — the standard roll for D&D attack and skill checks. 4d6 (often used for stat generation) means four six-sided dice, sometimes with the lowest die dropped (check your table's house rules — this roller gives you the raw total).
