Is lorem ipsum real Latin?
Partly. It’s adapted from a real Latin text, Cicero’s De finibus bonorum et malorum, but the words have been altered and shuffled, so it isn’t meaningful Latin.
Is it free to use commercially?
Yes. The source text is in the public domain, and this tool generates the placeholder text locally in your browser, so there’s nothing to license or credit.
Does this tool send my text anywhere?
No. Everything runs in your browser. The options you choose and the text you generate aren’t sent to a server or stored.
How do I get the same text every time?
Turn on Repeatable output and enter a seed, which can be any word or phrase. The same seed with the same settings always gives exactly the same text, which is handy for tests, fixtures and screenshots. If you leave the seed blank, the tool fills in a random one for you to copy.
How many words or paragraphs can I generate?
Up to 100 paragraphs, 500 sentences, 10,000 words or 100,000 characters in one go. The limits stop a typo from freezing your browser tab.
